The Mission of Griffith Centers for Children is to provide troubled children the environment and opportunities to become healthy, participating and productive members of society.
Griffith Centers for Children began in 1927 in Denver, Colorado. Our founder, Miss Emily Griffith, was a respected educator who believed that every child deserves positive experiences and opportunities that would prepare him or her to live a productive life. She began by taking orphaned and delinquent boys into her home, and then, with the help of the Kiwanis Club of Denver, built the first "Emily Griffith Home for Boys".
Chins Up was formed in 1974 as an organization that addressed the unmet needs of children and adolescents in the Colorado Springs community who were victims of abuse or were suffering from emotional or behavioral problems. What began as a short-term shelter has evolved into a wide range of community based programs serving over 200 families a year.
Chins Up joined with Griffith Centers for Children in 2001. This union of over 100 years of combined experience has resulted in a more complete and coordinated array of services for over 1,500 children and families each year.
With sites across Colorado, including Colorado Springs, Larkspur and Grand Junction, Griffith now specializes in providing a full continuum of therapeutic treatment and academic services for boys and girls, and families. We are licensed and nationally accredited to serve children from birth to 21 years of age. We provide community programs such as family preservation, day treatment, education and counseling services. Griffith Centers also provides residentially based programs such as foster care and shared family care, respite services, adoption, group homes, residential treatment (staff secure and open) and independent living services. Today we are able to provide healing and hope to thousands.
