Trails to Trust
Equine Program

Trails to Trust sign

The Trails To Trust Equine Programs utilize the partnership of a horse to promote education, therapy, and recreation for the residents and families of the Griffith Centers for Children programs.

Mission
To facilitate specialized equestrian experiences to meet the needs of individuals, families, and the community.

Vision
To be the leading provider of therapeutic equestrian programming and the premier resource center for equine-assisted psychotherapy education, research, and the development of standards.

Three Specialized Areas of Programming

Education

Part of the Griffith Centers for Children high school curriculum is horse class. The students learn riding skills, horse safety, and horse responsibility. The students develop social skills and work responsibility that will prepare them for their future endeavors.

Therapy

Residents are selected by their primary therapists to participate in equine assisted psychotherapy. The session is created based on the resident’s master treatment plan goals. The equine activity is metaphorically related to the resident’s feelings and behaviors. Asking for help, improving boundaries, social skills, and problem solving skills are just a few of the skills strengthened through a relationship with a horse.

Recreation

Equine wilderness trips, day rides, and games are scheduled to provide the residents opportunities to play, while practicing the skills they have learned through education and equine therapy.

Equine wilderness trip

The Trails To Trust Equestrian Programs are among the most successful programs at the Griffith Centers for Children. The individual, family, and group sessions have been effective in establishing self-awareness, trust, and empathy, while challenging our resident’s thoughts, boundaries, and anger management. These are just a few examples of the numerous feelings and behaviors that are encountered daily within the horse program. Below is the amount of programming offered by the Trails To Trust Equine Programs.

25 children receive individual equine therapy sessions
35 children receive daily horsemanship class
40 children receive group equine therapy sessions/week
2 families receive family equine therapy sessions/week
One group of children is selected to attend an Equine Wilderness trip annually

Community Programming

Whether you are a corporation, school, treatment center, or individual counselor our equine services are available to the community. Our equine facilitators will carefully create an equine experience that can benefit anybody. Team building, peer support, leadership skills, communication, and problem solving are a few examples of programming we have provided. From one experience to a series of sessions we will work with you to discuss the needs of your clientele and the course of programming.

Funding

The Trails To Trust Equine Programs are not paid for by state programs such as Medicaid. The programs are 100% supported by fundraising efforts and events, such as Trails To Trust Trail Ride and Art on the Farm, and through the Trails To Trust Equine Advisory Committee and the Griffith Centers for Children, Inc. We are always in need of donators, volunteers, and sponsors for the equine programs. Use the contact information below if you would like to join the efforts to financially sustain the equine programs.

Volunteering Opportunities

Equine Class Volunteer attends the equine education program and assists in the hands-on instruction of the clientele served within the horse program.

Adopt A Horse

As a nonprofit organization, the Griffith Centers for Children requires financial assistance in maintaining the costs of caring for horses. Our Adopt A Horse program was created for individuals to sponsor one or more of our horses by paying for their feed costs.

Colorado Arabian Breeders Alliance

Colorado Arabian Breeders Alliance

Dedicated to the
Preservation and Improvement
of the Arabian Horse

The Colorado Arabian Breeders Alliance, a non-profit corporation, was formed in February 2006 in response to a decline in Arabian breeding, particularly among the small family-based operation. The rising costs associated with breeding to the very best stallions and the overall rising costs of breeding, care and showing have, in part, contributed to this decline. We, as an Alliance, are dedicated to reversing this trend, not only by making the initial breeding purchase affordable, but also through education, mentoring and providing an outlet to showcase our beautiful Arabians as family companions and versatile athletes.

Not to be overshadowed by our dedication to preserve and improve the Arabian breed is our commitment to support, both economically and socially, individuals and organizations that recognize the value of horse ownership and association. This is what brought us to be an affinity partner with the Griffith Centers for Children, Trails to Trust program. Visit our web site at www.coloradobreederscup.com/CABA.
